Why do plants differ from each other?

Plants are found everywhere on earth because these are crucial parts of the food chain, and many animals and insects feed on them. There are distinct types of plants found in distinct parts of the planet. They look different from each other in many aspects. Plants have this habit of adapting themselves according to the conditions of the area around them, and as a result, their features are not the same. The place where a plant is grown is called its natural habitat. Each plant has a different shape, size, color, and design according to its habitat. To sustain, they also make some tools to protect them from insects and other disasters. Plants are basically classified into two parts according to their places of origin. 


Plants that grow on land are terrestrial. Plenty of terrestrial plants are found on earth. These are divided into three categories as per their natural habitats. 

  1. Plants on hills

Trees in hilly areas usually have sloping shapes. This is because they experience a lot of rainfall or snow, so the snow and rainwater fall off from them because of their body. They have pointed needle-like leaves and are called conifers because they have a cone-like shape. They can not provide any shade because of their body.

 2 Plants on plains 

The trees which grow on plains can have a shape like an umbrella and provide shade to many animals in scorching weather. Banyan, oak, mango, etc. are trees that grow on plains. These trees mostly have broad leaves and woody stems. Other than there are also many plants found on plains. 

 3 Plants on deserts 

There can be no rain in deserted lands for a long time, and plants do not get water for an extended period. So, they store water in them and do want to waste even a single drop of water. These are also known as succulents. 

They are spread so long that they can catch even small amounts of water. People can place these plants in their homes as some of them are very alluring. Nowadays, they can order indoor plants online from online nurseries. These also need less care than other plants. They usually have a fleshy stem and thorn shaped leaves. Cactus is an excellent example of succulents. 


Many plants are found in rivers, lakes, ponds, and even in the ocean. These are called aquatic plants, as these grow only in water. These plants are a vital source of food for many marine animals. There are three types of aquatic plants.

  1. Underwater plants 

Divers often see many plants at the bottom of the rivers and oceans while diving. These plants have fragile leaves with no stomata on their surface. They exhale oxygen, which is inhaled by water animals like fish. 

2 Floating plants 

Some plants are made to float on the surface of the water. They have a sponge-like structure, which makes them so light to float on the water. The roots of these plants are not attached to the bottom; instead, they hang below them. Water animals like duckweed feed on them. The example of floating plants is water lettuce. 

3 Fixed water plants 

The roots of these plants are fixed at the bottom of the river or lake. These are flexible and bend with the flow of water, so these do not break even the massive flow of water. Water lily and lotus are fixed water plants. 

Climate can vary in distinct areas of the earth because some places can be scorching and some are too cold. We may experience heavy and regular rainfall in some areas while some sites do not get rain. These variations in climate affect the growth of a plant and it begins to adapt itself to prevailing situations to sustain. Like plants, other living beings like animals also adapt themselves according to climate conditions. For instance, animals in cold regions have thick fur or skin for protection from cold. 

Due to their unique features and designs, people find them attractive. They use them for decorating their homes and gardens for which they buy plants online or get from nearby markets. They can also do the shopping of indoor plants online for beautifying their indoors.
