The number of Indian companies going public in 2021 hit a record high in terms of volume, raising over Rs 1 lakh crore. With big names like Zomato, Nykaa and Paytm hitting the market, it was a blockbuster year for Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) in the country. If you missed the boat on any of these, don’t worry about it. There are a bunch of other big-league upcoming IPOs in the coming year.
What is an IPO?
An Initial Public Offering is a way by which private companies list their shares on stock exchanges so as to raise money. Once listed, retail investors can invest in the IPO and get a share of the company.
Before going public, the company files a Draft Red Herring Prospectus containing all information about the company. This includes its operations, financial status, how much money it plans to raise, what it plans to do with the money and other important information. You can get a copy of the DRHP on the Securities and Exchange Board of India website. It is important that you read the DRHP carefully to understand whether the company is worth investing in or not.
