A PMP certified professional or a professional having a certification in project management can manage almost 3/4th of any high-performing project. Businesses having a greater number of PMP-certified professionals expect better project success than those without having the same. These people are an asset to any company. PMP certification – The basics 

It is a globally acclaimed professional certification. PMI or US-based Project Management Institute offers this accreditation. This respectable credential seems to be extremely essential for project managers, especially those who want to take their careers to the next level. Get PMP training from a reputable institution that has a proven track record. 

PMP exam 

PMBOK or Project Management Body of Knowledge works to guide the aspirants who must pass the tests on five performance domains. 

  • Starting the project – 13 percent
  • Planning the same – 24 percent
  • Execution of the project – 31 percent
  • Controlling and monitoring the project – 25 percent 
  • Finishing the project – 7 percent 

The percentage mentioned denotes the weightage allotted for each domain during the exam. 

There will be about 200 MCQs in the exam. Only 25 of them are not considered for the final grade. These are the pilot questions given to enhance the exam standard. The candidates are randomly placed across the exam. They don’t have any idea of the sample questions. It is a closed book exam. This means the aspirant won’t have any reference material to be used during the exam. 

Requirements 

Project managers who have experience in handling every aspect of the project delivery including leading and managing the cross-functional teams are eligible for the test. Moreover, there are some prerequisites that each candidate should meet prior to getting certified. They should have, 

  • A secondary degree like a high school diploma or its globally recognized equivalent 
  • Been in leading and directing projects for at least 7500 hours
  • Project management education worth 35 hours

Otherwise, the aspirants should have met the following requisites,

  • Project management education worth 35 hours
  • Been in leading and directing projects for at least 4500 hours
  • Four-year bachelor’s degree

Time investment 

If you want to get the certification and to know about PMP advantages, you first have to be willing to invest dedicated hours along with money. Your dedicated and consistent time is needed for the preparation of the exam. You should be able to commit at least 12 to 16 weeks for the preparation. Create a study plan and stick to the same. Allot certain time every day (as much as possible) along with dedicated 6 to 8 hours during the weekend. 

Once you’re done with the round of PMBOK study, take math tests along with other practice tests. Use PMP question banks to know your improvement level. Focus on the areas you’re weak in. Use all the resources like the study guide, exam prep guide that you will receive from PMP training school, thoroughly.
